This is an on-site, part-time position. Variable scheduling during Kid Zone Hours. There are two positions we will be hiring for: 1 for our morning shift -M-F  8:30-1:30; 1 for our afternoon shift - M-F 4:00-7:30.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  Every day children utilize our Kid Zone drop-in childcare center within our membership facility engaging in activities and building new relationships with our staff and other participants. You will be part of an amazing staff team who provide enrichment and safe supervision, teach teamwork and social skills, and support children as they grow and learn. You will implement program activities while also building positive relationships by providing prompt and courteous service to members, participants and guests. Kid Zone Assistants may support other programming such as Birthday Parties and Family nights and events.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health, safety and to provide a positive experience for each child.
  2. Implements program activities. May be asked to assist in planning activities.
  3. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, and emergency procedures.
  4. Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent information about their child’s experience and to promote upcoming programs.
  5. Ensures that toys and equipment are clean and safe, set up and stored properly. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.
  6. Follows organization’s policies and procedures regarding protecting youth from abuse; including screening and selection, training and supervision, and responding to allegations. Communicate to all staff and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect youth from abuse.
  7. Follows mandated reporting requirements.
  8. Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

You are 16 years of age or older and have:

  • Six months or more previous experience working with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, nanny, coaching.
  • Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
  • Experience implementing group activities preferred

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical activity, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • The position requires the ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 40 pounds.
