Description
SUMMARY
Assist the Sports Information Director with creating press releases, reporting statistics and in game media relations and web postings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible to assist with athletic communications and publications for all athletic teams, including but not limited to:
- Schedule posters and cards, media guides and game day programs;
- Write news and feature stories and disseminate them to media outlets;
- Assist with statistic collection, posting live stats and writing post-game news stories following athletic games and disseminating the stories to media outlets and post online;
- Assist with maintaining current team and individual statistics and distribute them to conference offices, the NCAA, and media outlets;
- Assist with promotion of home athletic events and hosting visiting and local media;
- Distribute all statistical information before, during and after events to the media, official scorer, CardinalCast and Public Address announcers.
- Responsible for collecting, cataloging and archiving photos and videos for athletic department.
- Responsible to assist with maintaining the WJU athletic website.
- Responsible to assist with creating and distributing weekly athletic event schedule on campus and email campus community on all home games, cancellations, and make-up dates.
- Promote post season honors for outstanding athletes, coaches and administrator and submit them to the conference office.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Director or designee.
- Compliance Responsibilities Read, interpret and apply policies and procedures in assigned area; document as required by policies and procedures; maintain qualifications and certification; complete annual training as required by position.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Must be enrolled and remain in a Master's Degree program at Wheeling Jesuit University for the extent of the Graduate Assistantship.
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply basic statistics (mean, median, range, etc.).
- REASONING: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- COMPUTER SKILLS: Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, email and web-based applications; ability to obtain proficiency in Athletic Department software used for reporting results on-line and to the NCAA.
- OTHER: Must have a valid drivers license. Knowledge of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Commitment to implementing the mission, vision and values of a Catholic, Jesuit, university.
