Role Overview: Vice President (VP), Corporate Safety, Security, and Compliance
This executive role oversees all safety, security, and compliance programs, ensuring alignment with aviation standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. The VP fosters a safety culture that meets and exceeds domestic and international regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Oversight and Leadership
- Manage the airline’s Safety Management System (SMS) per FAA, EASA, and ICAO regulations.
- Develop and implement safety policies ensuring operational safety for flight and ground operations.
- Lead risk management initiatives, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate safety incidents, ensure regulatory compliance, and establish preventive measures.
Security Leadership
- Oversee corporate security policies and ensure passenger, employee, and asset protection.
- Collaborate with TSA, Customs, and law enforcement to maintain security standards.
- Manage airport screening, baggage handling, access control, and surveillance systems.
- Ensure cybersecurity and data protection compliance.
Regulatory Compliance and Oversight
- Ensure adherence to FAA, EASA, ICAO, and other regulatory requirements.
- Manage responses to audits, inspections, and compliance programs.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes, adjusting policies as needed.
Risk Management
- Develop risk mitigation strategies across airline operations.
- Conduct audits to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective measures.
- Integrate safety and security into strategic planning.
Training and Awareness
- Oversee training programs on safety, security, and compliance.
- Ensure personnel are up to date on regulatory and security measures.
- Promote education on emerging safety technologies and industry best practices.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with operations, flight crews, HR, legal, and IT to align safety and compliance goals.
- Engage with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external partners.
- Align safety objectives with overall business strategy.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and manage safety, security, and compliance teams.
- Ensure adequate resources and training for direct reports.
- Oversee budgeting for safety, security, and compliance initiatives.
Reporting and Analytics
- Present safety, security, and compliance reports to senior leadership.
- Analyze data to identify trends and implement improvements.
Qualifications
Education & Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's in Aviation Management, Safety, Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years in aviation safety, security, compliance, or risk management, with 5 years in leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or relevant certifications (CSP, CASP, etc.).
- Deep understanding of FAA, EASA, ICAO, TSA regulations.
- Proven track record in safety management, security operations, and crisis response.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and analytical skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Use of hands for computers, phones, and office equipment.
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds).
- Ability to handle high-stress situations and sensitive information.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $187,000–$250,000 based on experience.
