Project Manager/Field Superintendent Job Description
Job Description: To manage the installation of a variety of general construction scopes of work ranging from grading, hardscapes, general MEP systems, play equipment, shade/pavilion structures, splash pad, etc. found on typical public and private parks and recreation projects. This includes managing the schedule, managing the certified installers, working with GC’s / customers to ensure that projects are completed on time. The goal is to make sure that projects are completed on time and at or under budget while exceeding customer expectations. Three to five years experience is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Manage Whirlix’s backlog of work. Provide updates at the bi-weekly backlog meeting.
- Manage work/site tasks to the construction schedule. Make sure projects do not move past the completion date. Work to get projects in the month they are forecasted for completion on the backlog to prevent revenue and margin from moving out of the month.
- Handle and installation related change orders with the customers and with our vendors. Make sure all cost related changes are tracked and are accounted for.
- Manage our certified installers and approved subcontractors. Make sure they are on site on time and are completing projects per the schedule. Make sure they meet company and customer expectations and are professional, knowledgeable, etc.
- Make sure play equipment deliveries show up on time.
- Double check order acknowledgements to make sure colors, equipment, and pricing is correct.
- Confirm all materials to be ordered or provided are per the approved submittals provided to Whirlix.
- Attend/scheduled pre-construction meetings and make sure site is ready for our scope of work to start.
- Attend site visits and inspect the projects once completed by our installers.
- Do large project meetings with our sales team to make sure the project is being bid correctly and no scope gaps are present on bids being submitted.
- Notify sales team and owner of any cost or customer related issues on site. Work to solve those issues quickly.
- Take triangulation dimensions on site as needed.
- Be a source for the sales and estimation/design team by reviewing/vetting out buildability or possible complications prior to presenting the customer with a design or quote/proposal.
Requirements for the position:
- Able to manage over 30 projects at one time with varied ranges of dollar value
- Able to manage a job from a green site to completed project ranging up to $3M in total contract value.
- Ability to travel to the Austin & San Antonio area to meet with customers, review site conditions, pre-construction meetings, etc.
- Able to manage labor/tasks and make sure projects are completed on time.
- Ability to phase and order materials/labor well in advance of need to avoid delays due to be unprepared.
- Great written and verbal communications skills.
- Extremely detail oriented. Save and track all communication exchanges with customers.
- Able to multi-task. Have to move from project to project daily.
- Must be incredibly organized and able to manage time well.
- Needs to be able to develop a good relationship with our customers while making sure we are not being taken advantage of.
- Work with Whirlix Construction Manager and Vice President of Operations to exceed customer’s expectations in both communication and quality of work.
- Bring a book of trusted subcontractors to our organization and/or help obtain new subcontractors/vendors to develop a deep roster for Whirlix to bid work with.
- CPSI Certified (this is to be obtained within 6 months of acceptance of the position)
