This position is responsible for the execution of creating and designing cakes for Whisk & Paddle including special orders for events and everyday walk ins. This candidate will also participate in the production of items in the bakery case, ensuring the quality of all the items that are produced meet the standards of Whisk & Paddle.
This team member is responsible for decorating cakes and pastries and is expected to maintain a high-quality standard for all items produced. The Decorator must be able to work as a team player, foster a positive work environment, and carry out the core values of Whisk & Paddle.
The Decorator will assist in creating works of art in a team setting ranging from icing roses and ribbon & confetti to custom fondant work and tiered cakes. The chosen candidate will use a variety of skills to satisfy our customer needs and supply the retail store with top-quality products including cupcakes, royal icing cookies, cakes, and much more.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Review all cake orders to ensure all information is clear, concise, and properly completed
- Complete all orders according to customer specifics:
- · Correct Size, Correct flavor, filling, topping and decoration
- W&P expects decorators to write neatly and clearly on all cakes and to use colors in a pleasing way
- Frost cakes in a variety of different toppings including but not limited to whipped cream, buttercream, Italian buttercream, cream cheese, and poured ganache
- Decorate cakes up to customers expectations this includes but is not limited to icing roses, ribbon and confetti, fresh fruit, fresh flowers, kits, airbrushing, piping and basic fondant work
- Be a valuable part of our team to help complete custom orders of all kinds including but not limited to various-sized cakes, royal icing cookie orders, pastry platters and dessert bars, wedding cakes, fondant pieces, items for sale in retail store, and much more.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized work area including tables, floor, mixers, and other equipment
- Communicate effectively with peers and management regarding necessities, problems, and well-being, and inventory
Skills
- Must be able to frost a basic cake
- Must be able to pipe frosting flowers
- Must be precise and attentive to detail.
- Must have a strong understanding of food safety, and basic hygiene
- Must be able to be flexible and act quickly when a problem occurs.
- Must be able to work as a team and have the aptitude to work independently.
- Must be able to follow directions and procedures.
- Must be dependable and reliable
- Must be able to work weeks leading up to, and including, holidays and weekends.
- Must be comfortable asking questions.
- Must have proper knife skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1-2 years of cake decorating experience, commercial experience preferred.
- High school diploma, GED, or related experience preferred
- Any experience in a high-volume production bakery is preferred but not required
- Food Safety Certification is preferred but not required
- A portfolio of previous work is REQUIRED.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
· Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs .
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb; balance; stoop; kneel and crouch.
- The work involves considerable exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, smoke, and airborne food particles (flour, sugar, nuts) in a fast-paced environment with people working in close proximity.
