About The Role
Whisper Aero is looking for a dynamic Manufacturing Engineer capable of scaling our manufacturing capacity from small batches to a fully functioning production line, capable of shipping hundreds and then thousands of units annually. This role involves being the manufacturing voice during design reviews, authoring work instructions, documenting processes, implementing standardization, designing tooling, and enhancing process efficiency.
What You’ll Do
- Strategize and execute prototype builds using a diverse range of cutting-edge manufacturing methods.
- Develop clear, precise build instructions to ensure seamless execution and repeatability.
- Collaborate with design teams and shop floor technicians to swiftly identify and resolve non-conformances, keeping projects on track.
- Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) initiatives from the earliest stages of conceptual design, influencing product success.
- Champion continuous process improvements, enhancing Whisper’s manufacturing capabilities and driving operational excellence.
- Lead and mentor technicians, working hands-on to build and refine prototype hardware for optimal performance.
- Design and develop innovative tooling solutions that support both prototype and production needs.
- Oversee and coordinate internal and external projects, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- US Person Status
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of related work experience
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing manufacturing projects with external companies and suppliers
- Demonstrated hands on experience with several of the following processes: manual or CNC machining, composites, 3D printing, prototyping, mechanical assembly, electronics assembly, electronics harness assembly, injection molding, hand soldering
- Demonstrated experience creating and implementing process improvements and technical documentation
- Expert level CAD software skills (SolidWorks preferred)
- Experience with basic inspection tools (caliper, micrometer, dial gauge, multimeter)
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with AS9100, ISO9001, or IPC-A-610.
- Knowledge of modern inspection equipment (3D scanners, laser measurement, CMMs, etc.).
- Experience managing technicians and interns.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
- Aircraft maintenance experience.
- Mechanical analysis skills (hand calculations, software).
- Experience with CAM or other machine programming tools.
- Experience in making flight hardware and working in high-volume production environments.
- Knowledge of injection molding.
