Whitaker Transportation LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary, and operating as the transportation arm of
the Whitaker organization founded in 1953, has over 70 years of experience in the heavy civil and
underground utility construction industry. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan)
company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 400
employees and nearly 50 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation,
earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and
telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon.
Company Overview: Whitaker Transportation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Truck Driver
and Transportation Supervisor to join our team. This role combines the responsibilities of a truck driver
with leadership duties in overseeing transportation operations, safety, and communication.
Responsibilities:
Safety and Training:
• Facilitate safety meetings specific to the daily needs of truck drivers.
• Regularly review Smith Driving principles discussed in recent trainings.
• Help facilitate effective pre-trip walkarounds with each driver as needed.
Communication:
• Act as the point of contact for project personnel, taking phone calls or other
communications from field personnel and disseminating information to each of the trucks,
including subcontractors.
• Serve as the point of communication for the Transportation Manager when he needs to communicate with
drivers during the day.
Ticket Accuracy:
• Assist with the accuracy of trucking tickets.
• Make yourself available to other drivers to answer questions regarding tracking and billing.
• Work with the Transportation Manager and Project Engineers to ensure accuracy in truck tickets.
• Gather and make yourself available to turn in any tickets for drivers.
Daily Driving:
• Work all day as a truck driver, actively participating in driving duties alongside the people
you manage.
• Monitor the efficiency of each driver and report any issues to Transportation Manager, including
concerns for both Whitaker Drivers and Sub-Contractors.
Additional Compensation:
• Earn an additional $2.00 on top of the already agreed-upon wage for these additional
responsibilities.
Supervision and Performance Management:
• Supervise dispatchers and drivers, managing performance based on established KPIs with an
emphasis on safety, productivity, efficiency, and service delivery.
Financial Oversight:
• Implement and monitor weekly reports to ensure financial objectives are met.
• Develop management reports for net-revenue budget, analyze P&L statements, and create
operational or financial reports.
Safety and Compliance:
• Ensure the achievement of OSHA-related targets for recordable incidents and lost time
incidents.
• Ensure all trucks are DOT legal, maintaining current registration, permits, IFTA, etc.
• Have a firm understanding of federal and state DOT regulations and laws.
Records Management:
• Maintain current and accurate DOT records.
• Keep vendor packets and contract records with leasers/vendors up to date.
Policy Development and Implementation:
• Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures for efficient transportation
operations.
• Promote the company’s safety culture, conduct driver safety briefings, quarterly training,
and annual reviews to ensure DOT compliance and company safety requirements are met.
Staff Management:
• Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach, and mentor office staff and drivers.
• Handle large volumes of phone calls/emails in a timely manner.
Maintenance and Scheduling:
• Ensure regular preventative maintenance services are scheduled on time and safety-related
mechanical issues are addressed promptly.
• Schedule and coordinate daily truck schedules.
Problem Solving:
• Demonstrate a strong ability to ascertain and implement solutions when issues arise with
vendors, customers, and employees.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business Administration, or a related
discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the transportation industry.
• Working knowledge of DOT and IFTA guidelines.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective time and resource management.
• Proactive in identifying and solving potential issues.
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritize duties.

Physical Requirements:
