Job Title: Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) Department: Nursing
Reports To: Director of Nursing/Charge Nurse
Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) to provide quality care to our elderly residents.
The GNA will work under the supervision of licensed nurses to assist residents with daily living activities, personal care, and other tasks to ensure their comfort, safety, and well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide personal care to residents, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and oral hygiene.
* Assist residents with mobility, transfers, and ambulation, using appropriate assistive devices as needed.
* Serve meals and assist residents with eating, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
* Monitor and document vital signs, weight, and other health-related information.
* Observe residents for changes in condition and report any concerns to the nursing staff.
* Maintain a clean and safe environment for residents, including making beds, changing linens, and tidying rooms.
* Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, such as dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
* Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, promoting their social and emotional well-being.
* Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff members.
* Adhere to all facility policies and procedures, including safety regulations and infection control protocols.
* Participate in continuing education and training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
* Current and valid Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification in the Maryland.
* High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
* Experience working with elderly individuals in a healthcare setting is a plus.
* Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
* Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.
* Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
* Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate, patient demeanor.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Physical stamina to meet the demands of the job, including standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
Working Conditions:
* The GNA will work in a long-term care facility or assisted living environment.
* The position may require working various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
