JOB SUMMARY
This position performs clerical and customer service duties in the processing of title/tag applications, in the renewal of motor vehicle tags, and in the collection of tax revenue.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Collects ad valorem tax on vehicles, mobile homes, trailers, etc.
- Collects property taxes.
- Balances cash drawer and processes reports daily.
- Sorts, organizes, and prepares documents to be scanned and/or filed.
- Ensures that all titles, legal documents, and supporting paperwork are in compliance with state guidelines.
- Enters data to computerized databases.
- Collects payments; receives, reviews, and processes paperwork.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
- Processes vehicle registration renewals in person and by mail.
- Processes title applications from various automobile dealerships and businesses etc.
- Assists customers with insurance requirements, registration suspensions, etc.
- Issues vehicle tag, disabled placards, mobile home decals, military plates, etc.
- Assists in maintaining inventory of tag, placards, decals, etc.
- Collects and processes delinquent taxes.
- Provides assistance to taxpayers on complex tax matters.
- Maintains the confidentiality and security of restricted information.
- Processes and prepares incoming and outgoing mail.
- Reviews completeness and accuracy of paperwork completed by customers.
- Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Tax Commissioner assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include Georgia property tax and motor vehicle tag and title laws as well as county and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related clerical and customer service duties. The unique needs of each customer contribute to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to participate in the processing of tag and title transactions and in the collection of taxes and fees. Successful performance ensures the efficiency and effectiveness of department operations

- Contacts are typically with coworkers, other county personnel, automobile dealers, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, bank personnel, mortgage company representatives, delivery persons, representatives of the Georgia Department of Revenue, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Knowledge of cash handling, reconciliation and management.
- Acceptable credit and criminal background checks.
