An overview of this position entails… The Controller leads Hilltop’s operational accounting, financial reporting and planning, and audit and tax compliance functions. The Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and collaborates with staff and leadership across Hilltop to protect financial resources and ensure accurate, timely, and accessible financial information used to inform strategic decisions and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. The Controller contributes in both a leadership and hands-on capacity and serves as a key advisor to the CFO.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Accounting:
1. Oversee full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, payroll (500 employees), accounts payable, cash management, and customer billing across multiple business units and programs.
2. Own the accuracy of the monthly trial balances of Hilltop and its subsidiaries. Supervise and actively participate in month-end and year-end close activities.
3. Oversee grant accounting and financial compliance team, with diverse sources of incoming grant funds.
4. Oversee purchasing / procurement team, ensuring all spending is supported by appropriate documentation and approvals.
5. Execute accounting for complex accounting matters with the support of the CFO. Research, recommend, and implement solutions for new situations and challenges.
6. Work collaboratively with Finance Team, operations, and corporate functions to design, implement, and maintain cross functional processes and associated internal controls that protect financial resources and drive efficiency.
Financial Reporting & Financial Planning:
1. Prepare monthly financial statement package for review by CFO. Leverage financial reporting systems to deliver P&L reporting to leaders of Hilltop’s business units and programs.
2. As part of month-end close process, deliver analysis of financial statement variances relative to prior periods and relative to expectations (budget and/or forecast).
3. In partnership with CFO, meet regularly with leaders of business units and programs to review financial results to empower operators to understand and optimize financial performance.
4. In partnership with CFO, lead financial planning process (preparation of annual budget and periodic forecasts). Leverage insights from monthly financial analysis to inform forecasts.
Audit & Tax Compliance:
1. Supervise annual financial statement audits and single audit. Build effective working relationships with external audit and tax partners. Supervise other financial-related regulatory audits as they arise.
2. Partner with external accounting firm to prepare annual tax returns for Hilltop and its subsidiaries.
Accounting Systems:
1. Serve as subject matter expert for accounting and financial reporting aspects of company-wide systems (ERP, HRIS/payroll, and reporting/analytics systems) and for the financial planning system.
2. In partnership with the IT function, support upgrades and implementations. Drive full utilization of capabilities of existing systems to automate and streamline business processes.
3. Provide robust training programs for internal stakeholders on current and new accounting procedures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
• Minimum 7 years’ accounting/finance experience.
• Minimum 3 years’ accounting/finance leadership experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
• Certified Public Accountant (preferred).

Salary : $106,080 - $116,688
