JOB TITLE : ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING
REPORTS TO : DIRECTOR OF NURSING
SUPERVISES : ALL NURSING STAFF
COORDINATES WITH : ALL DEPARTMENTS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS :
Graduate from an accredited nursing school. BSN required. Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in New York State. Minimum of 3 years long term care experience required. Minimum of 1 year management experience required. NYS PRI Assessor. Knowledge of New York State department of health regulations as it relates to nursing services, MDS, care plans plus a complete understating of administrative and clinical nursing theory, principles and practices. Working knowledge of administrative and personnel practices. No physical or mental impairments that would compromise the position. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the facility and workday. Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies. Under the general direction of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing assumes the legal and professional responsibility for maintaining optimum levels of nursing services for all residents in the facility. Acts as a resource person for the staff and promotes the philosophy and objectives of the facility. Coordinates learning experiences and staff development by enforcing the policy and procedures of the facility, including the MDS protocol.
DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES :
Coordinates the planning, implementing and evaluating of resident care services.
Determine resident care issues and coordinates and leads in problem solving approaches.
Interpret and maintain standards of Nursing, geriatric nursing and rehabilitation nursing practices.
Interpret and execute nursing department policies.
Represents the Director of Nursing and assume his / her responsibilities in his / her absence.
Responsible for the daily operation of the Nursing Department.
Recognize personal and professional ability and interpret the needs and interests of nursing personnel.
Utilize the knowledge of current trends and research in setting policy.
Assign personnel to meet the needs of the residents.
Supervise nursing care for all residents.
Ensures appropriate teaching of staff.
Participate in the Quality Assurance Program and Risk Management.
Utilizes independent judgement in decision making and problem solving.
Establish individual conferences and counsel staff in handling special problems relating to job adjustment and resident care.
Assists supervisor and nurses in coordinating, delegating and planning over all care and management of units.
Hold regularly scheduled meetings of nurses and ancillary staff to discuss goals and issues.
Provide for skilled assessment of each resident’s need and evaluate effectiveness of the medical treatment plans and nursing care plan. Identify the restorative and discharge potential of each.
Participates in the selection of nursing personnel, nursing employee evaluations and disciplinary actions.
Conducts performance evaluations as necessary and reviews all performance evaluations of all nursing personnel.
Prepares and revises job descriptions for nursing staff.
Performs additional duties as assigned or required by administration, nursing administration or may be required to perform other tasks not specified above but within the scope of this job title.
