Maintenance Man 2- Public Works
$24.87-29.65 per hour
Performs a wide variety of routine maintenance work ranging from those requiring manual skills and special knowledge, which may be acquired on the job to routine manual labor in the construction, repair, and maintenance of Township's streets, building, and properties. Performs work under general instructions, although special tasks may require detailed assignment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates lawn tractor, push mowers, weed whacker, hedge trimmer for lawn maintenance.
- Mows lawns; weeds; trims bushes with hedge trimmer; minor pruning of trees with chain saw, and other listed equipment, as needed.
- Performs landscaping by planting grass, leveling ground, and filling in holes with ground using rakes, shovels, and tamper.
- Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.
- Clean-up grounds, before and after mowing.
- Rakes leaves and puts down mulch as needed.
- Keep daily record of grass cutting assignments.
- Performs road repair/maintenance utilizing hot and cold patch materials.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
- Performs sanitation type jobs such as pick up of leaves, Christmas trees, etc. With rate adjustment to Sanitation/Thrower rate.
- Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
- Rakes and lutes material for paving.
- Digs trenches, mixes concrete, loads and unloads heavy material.
- Blows out cracks in road.
- Sweeps streets.
- Assists in preventative maintenance on all equipment.
- Wears appropriate safety equipment as needed.
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Performs routine vehicle maintenance as outlined on daily inspection sheets.
- Performs duties as outlined in upper job classifications as required or assigned.
- Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required; and
- Maintenance experience, preferably in a Public Works function, or;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Some knowledge of equipment, properties, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
- Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of "right-to-know" laws as instructed and posted.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to handle stressful situations.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
Pick-up truck; lawn and landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, chainsaw, hedgers, weed trimmers, hedge trimmer, bow saw, jack hammer; electric motors, pumps, sprinklers; miscellaneous hand and power tools for lawn and general labor maintenance, painting; shovels, wrenches, mobile radio, phone, and air compressor.
