Job Summary :
Serves as a key member on a project team, taking a lead role in the engineering process, performing multiple engineering design tasks and design calculations along with overseeing less experienced engineers, while assisting the project manager in the coordination and oversight of other discipline activities and their integration into the overall project design with a firm awareness of budget and scheduling restraints.
Must have a thorough understanding of fundamental engineering principles, including but not limited to, basic unit operations; fluid dynamics; heat transfer; thermodynamics; energy, mass and material balances; and material sciences along with an advanced understanding of key industry codes and standards including but not limited to, DOT 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195; American Society of Mechanical Engineers (“ASME”) B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8; American Petroleum Institute (“API”), Manufacturer’s Standardization Society (“MSS”), and National Fire Protection Agency (“NFPA”).
Provides expert judgement, with the ability to size and specify more advanced pipeline industry materials and equipment, including but not limited to, pumps, compressors, meters, control valves, sampling skids, relief and blowdown systems and is knowledgeable in custody transfer applications.
Collaborates closely with other engineering disciplines, and assists in the coordination of the overall project engineering and design activities. Leads and oversees the preparation of design and construction drawings, and coordinates the overall procurement support for projects including the Request for Quotation / Request for Purchase package development process. Is growing in the overall knowledge and execution of projects, often assisting the project manager with project reporting, cost tracking, and the development of project schedules and budgets.
Works on projects, or tasks, requiring more complex solutions with minimal oversight of a project manager. Work is highly independent and may fill the role of a Project Manager on projects of basic to moderate complexity or size. Is self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as in a group environment, with a dedication to ethics, safety, and quality.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities :
- Assisting in the preparation and maintenance of project schedules, utilizing MS Project, or other client approved software;
- Assisting in overall project controls, including the development and ongoing tracking of engineering and overall project costs and associated budget forecasting;
- Preparation of project capital and operations and maintenance costs to client-designated accuracy levels;
- Assisting with the preparation and tracking of engineering and design man-hour estimates for assigned projects;
- Assisting with the coordination and tracking of project deliverables;
- Conducting field investigations and gathering applicable data to support detailed engineering and design for both greenfield sites and the upgrade, modification, and expansion of existing infrastructure;
- Preparation of feasibility and front-end engineering design packages for gathering and transmission pipelines and associated facilities, including capital cost and operating cost estimates to client-designated accuracy levels;
- Leading your assigned project team in the development and ongoing updates to project scopes of work and engineering design basis documentation;
- Review and approval of project specific piping specifications to ASME B31.3, B31.4, and / or B31.8, as applicable;
- Performing detailed design calculations including compressible and non-compressible fluid hydraulics, line sizing, material grade and wall thickness, Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (“MAOP”), horizontal directional drill stress and hydraulic fracture analyses and other calculations as may be assigned to you;
- Perform stress analyses for basic to moderately complex piping designs utilizing Caesar II stress analysis software;
- Sizing pumps, compressors, control valves, relief valves, meters, regulators, sampling systems, sump and drain systems, and other applicable pipeline and pipeline facility equipment, as required;
- Pipeline routing and the evaluation of routes for constructability;
- Coordinating third party services, including geotechnical investigations, survey, land acquisition, and environmental and cultural permitting resources;
- Coordinating and overseeing the integration of other engineering and design disciplines into the overall project design;
- Preparing new equipment and material specifications and technical data sheets, developing Request for Quotation packages and addressing vendor clarification requests, evaluating vendor proposals, and leading the selection of equipment and materials that meet the project design requirements;
- Leading the review and approval of all vendor / shop drawings, including general arrangement and fabrication / erection drawings, as necessary, for assigned projects;
- Preparing and continually updating overall project drawing lists in accordance with Whiteley, or the specified client standards, as applicable;
- Working with CAD designers to develop 3D models in accordance with Whiteley, or client specified, drafting standards and project specific piping specifications;
- Working with CAD designers to develop design and construction drawings such as PFD’s / P&IDs, site plans and general arrangement drawings, piping and isometric drawings, civil / structural drawings, route maps, pipeline open cut / bored / and horizontal directionally drilled (“HDD”) crossing drawings, and pipeline alignment sheets;
- Participating in, and often leading, design reviews, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) / Hazardous Operations (HazOp) Studies;
- Assisting the Project Manager with the coordination and oversight of the project document controls, including the preparation of project transmittals, procurement tracking, and the issuance of project design and construction drawings;
- Leading the preparation of construction bid packages, including scopes of work, construction specifications, uniform bid sheets, and associated documentation;
- Assisting with job walks with solicited contractors, addressing contractor bid requests for information, reviewing and analyzing contractor bids, and assisting with the preparation of contractor recommendations to clients;
- Mentoring and reviewing the work products of less experienced engineers;
