Position Summary

The Loading Dock Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the loading dock, ensuring smooth, safe, and efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of goods. This role includes coordinating deliveries, managing vendor relationships, maintaining dock safety, and ensuring that operations are compliant with all relevant regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations of staging and delivery activities to support timely, damage-free unloading of shipments.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the loading dock, ensuring that all deliveries and shipments are processed in a timely and organized manner.
  • Coordinate with retailers and vendors to schedule delivery times and monitor adherence to the loading dock schedule.
  • Supervise loading dock staff, providing training, guidance, and leadership to ensure efficient workflow and productivity.
  • Ensure the loading dock area is clean, organized, and compliant with safety, health, and environmental standards.
  • Maintain proper documentation of delivery logs, inspections, and safety reports.
  • Collaborate with maintenance team to ensure the loading dock and associated equipment are well-maintained and operational.
  • Implement and enforce safety policies, including the use of proper equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) and personal protective gear.
  • Monitor performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce delays, and optimize dock operations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all loading dock-related concerns from tenants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Assist in budget preparation and manage loading dock-related expenses within allocated budget.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • 3 years of experience in a loading dock, warehouse, or distribution center management role, preferably within a retail environment.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to train and motivate staff.
  • Experience with inventory management software and dock management systems is a plus.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Moderate proficiency using Microsoft Office primarily in Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong knowledge of loading dock operations, inventory management, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to use electric pallet jack as well as stand-up forklift is a must.
  • Must wear company issued uniform (Safety vest, Shirt, pants).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with drivers, guests, tenants, employees and other visitors of the loading dock.
  • Ability to handle difficult or stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of parking regulations and traffic control procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • This is a full-time position and the typical schedule is Monday through Friday. The incumbent must have the ability to work a varying schedule when business needs require. This may include early mornings, weekdays or weekends, and most holidays. Work hours may vary, or change based on customer order requirements.
  • Physical RequirementsPosition requires the incumbent to stand, walk, bend, twist, & stretch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Along with having the ability to push and pull up to approximately 20 lbs of drag weight without assistance. Due to this position being outside in the loading dock, the employee will be exposed to all weather conditions.
