Job Summary:
The Human Resources (HR) Generalist supports the daily functions of the HR department at all locations. This role is responsible for various aspects of the employee life cycle including onboarding and orientation. This role assists with employee health and safety plan administration and resolves benefits-related problems. This role provides administrative support to the human resource function including record-keeping, file maintenance, HRIS entry, and payroll processing. This role participates in positive employee relations while ensuring that tasks and duties are completed in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct and coordinate programs for timely and effective recruiting process in a professional and confidential manner and in compliance with all applicable laws and with WFC’s policies and practices including but not limited to: support interviews as needed, communicate with hiring managers and applicants, update and maintain job boards and Applicant Tracking system.
- Conduct and coordinate programs for timely and effective onboarding and offboarding in a professional and confidential manner and in compliance with all applicable laws and with WFC’s policies and practices including but not limited to: administer background checks; organize and conduct new hire orientation; complete required Form I9 documentation, verification, and files; support termination processing.
- Support employee benefit administration including, but not limited to: enrollments, terminations, data entry and COBRA administration; ensure employees have timely access to benefit information in a professional and confidential manner and in compliance with all applicable laws and WFC policies and practices; maintain up-to-date documentation and related personnel records; and support open enrollment process each year.
- As requested, implement and maintain health and safety procedures, programs and reporting including, but not limited to: maintaining Health Department logs; ensure submission of First Report of Injury to workers compensation insurance provider; communicate as needed with relevant employees, supervisors, and workers compensation; and maintain up-to-date documentation.
- Support payroll processing including but not limited to: process HR data, payroll entries, and reports in a timely manner and in compliance with established practices; maintain up-to-date documentation and related personnel records; address employee inquiries; and assist with payroll audits and reviews.
- Support daily use of Human Resource Information System (HRIS) including but not limited to: maintain and update HRIS system, understand and support product updates, communicate issues, problem solve user questions, and generate reports.
- Support training programs as needed including but not limited to: assist with training scheduling; track and document training completion; and prepare, coordinate, and deliver training materials and programs as directed.
- Support employee relations in a professional and confidential manner and in compliance with all applicable laws and with WFC’s policies and practices as needed including but not limited to: performance review process: leave management; maintain up-to-date documentation, file/scan related personnel records; as requested, attend and support HR Manager with employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, investigations, and any documentation.
- Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors; perform customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions; assist or prepare correspondence as requested; and conduct employee verifications.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Degree in Human Resources or related degree/certificate
- Previous experience with Paycom or similar HRIS
- Experience with interviewing, orientation, and training of employees
- Experience in retail, grocery, natural foods and/or cooperative business
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to all WFC locations and off-site meetings
- Previous Human Resources Internship or one year of Human Resource experience OR degree in Human Resources or related field
- At least one year of professional office experience
- Experience coordinating group dynamics and ability to present in a group setting
- Proficiency in web and desktop-based productivity tools, email, and ability to quickly learn human resource information system (HRIS) and similar computer applications.
- Attention to detail and good organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
