Job Summary Day Program in Vernon, CT 8am-3:30p as a 1 to 1 Seeking someone willing to work with a larger male in wheelchair.
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and quality of life. This position involves assisting clients with daily living activities, implementing care plans, and fostering independence while promoting dignity and respect. The DSP will work closely with clients in various settings, including residential homes and community environments.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting them in daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client’s needs and goals.
- Monitor and document vital signs as needed, ensuring any changes in health are reported to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist clients with mobility and physical activities while promoting their independence.
- Engage clients in social and recreational activities to enhance their quality of life.
- Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering positive relationships with clients.
- Assist with dementia care by employing strategies that promote cognitive engagement and comfort.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients, including hospice care when necessary.
Skills
- Strong understanding of direct support principles and practices.
- Experience in hospice care is a plus, providing comfort during end-of-life transitions.
- Proficient in medication administration techniques and understanding of medication management.
- Ability to monitor vital signs accurately and respond appropriately to any health concerns.
- Compassionate caregiver skills with a focus on assisting individuals in achieving their personal goals.
- Knowledge of working with people who have developmental disabilities is essential.
