Job Title: Crewperson 4 - Grounds Maintenance (School Based)
Position Function: Crewperson 4 is directly responsible to the Supervisor. Possess exceptional knowledge and demonstrate remarkable skills in the designated trade. They shall have the ability to carry out assignments and perform excellent quality work with minimum supervision. Demonstrate outstanding qualities in efficiency, initiative and dependability when completing various tasks.
Employee Punctuality And Appearance
Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use various equipment assigned to the position as needed. Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment. This position requires the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use. Other tools that may be used include but not limited to blower, chainsaw, edger (walk behind), hedge clippers, ice melt, man-lift, mowers (push, self-propelled and riding), pole saw, sprayer, trucks, tractors, trailers, trash vacuum and weed-eaters.
Travel: Travel between schools and central offices is required.

- In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of USD 259 and is appropriate for their position.

- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Ability to wear proper safety equipment as required while performing the various tasks required for this position.
- Additional demands upon request of Supervisor.
- Attendance at required meetings and in-services.
- Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines and delivery of services.
- Exposure to chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
- Frequent lifting 20 to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of 50-100 pounds; lifting over 100 pounds with assistance.
- Work in high places on ladders and/or lifts.
- Work in standard office and school building environments.
- Work in wet and dusty conditions.
- Working overtime on short notice is mandatory.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed.
- Ability to perform as an effective team player.
- Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing.

- Must be able to perform all tasks involved in landscaping, mowing and maintaining all trees and shrubs in the district.
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
- Will work with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must exhibit a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Accept responsibility for assisting with training, skill development and supervision of other team members.
- Assist in maintaining good public relations, being cognizant that a Crewperson 4 represents both the Facilities Division and the Wichita Public Schools.
- Cooperate with other employees and maintain good public relations inside and outside of his/her assignment.
- Display willingness to be trained in all phases of the assignment and increase his/her skills, thus, qualifying for advancement.
- Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service.
- Maintain appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver's license at all times throughout employment.
- Possess superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership.
- Support the organizational goals, the mission of the School Service Center and the district.
- Work cooperatively with others and assist in maintaining open lines of communication.
- Work directly or indirectly under the Supervisor.
- Maintain and service the equipment and train crew members to do the same.
- Install sod and reseeds various areas.
- Install trees and shrubs and remove dead trees and shrubs throughout the district.
- Must properly mix and use the chemicals for weed control and maintain accurate records of treatment.
- Haul a trailer and make sure the equipment or load is secure
- Trim shrubs, mow, weed eat, and edge grass
- Drive tractors for mowing and snow removal purposes.
- This position is mandatory snow removal.
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred
- Must have 2-3 years of commercial mowing experience
- Maintain a valid Kansas driver's license at all times throughout employment
