Corrections Officer

Job Summary
The Correctional Officer plays a vital role in maintaining safety and security within correctional facilities. This position involves supervising inmates, enforcing rules and regulations, and ensuring a safe environment for both staff and inmates. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to manage conflicts effectively, and a commitment to upholding the law. The Correctional Officer I is an entry level position that requires successful completion of the Entry Level Correctional Training Academy.

Responsibilities

• Supervision and monitoring of inmates in housing units and inmates assigned to special confinement.
• Counting of inmates at regular and irregular intervals and keeping a total count of inmates and their location.
• Conducting random housing unit and perimeter security checks of the institution.
• Performing regular pat searches of inmates. Enforcing the rules and regulations of the department.
• Preparing written reports, documenting post activities, and completing other paperwork as required.
• Shift work including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must possess a high school diploma or GED that is recognized by the MD Board of Education.
• Must be a US Citizen or Resident Alien. Must successfully pass a background investigation.
• Must successfully pass drug screening.
• Must successfully pass a physical examination.
• Must successfully pass psychological testing.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License.

The Correctional Officer position requires a dedicated individual who is prepared to face the challenges of working in a correctional environment while ensuring the safety of all individuals within the facility.
