What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mail Clerk - Corrections position at Wicomico County?
The Corrections Mail Clerk is responsible for performing administrative and various clerical tasks, and responding to inquiries from the public and other agencies. Duties include:
- Processing, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing inmate mail;
- Inspecting all mail for traces of possible drugs;
- Communicating with the public in person and by phone and routing callers appropriately;
- Performing computer tasks such as answering inmate requests via computer messaging and maintaining inmate phone databases;
- Processing releases inmate checks and funds disbursement requests; and
- Maintaining staff and visitor accountability logs.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- 3 years of general office experience with typing speed of 40 words per minute
- Ability to interact with the public, released offenders, law enforcement, and other agencies effectively while maintaining confidentiality;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficient computer skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and vendors;
- Experience in the use of standard office software;
- Excellent communication, multi-tasking, and filing skills;
- Valid Driver’s License; and
- Ability to pass background check and drug testing.
