Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Communication Specialist to join our dynamic team. The Police Communications Specialist I is responsible for providing a communications link between the public, Sheriff's Office, and sworn personnel in the field. They receive and respond to law enforcement calls for service from the public and work under the supervision of a Senior Police Communications Operator II. This is an entry level training position.
Qualifications
Minimum of 18 years of age at time of appointment; High School Diploma; Must be certified by CJIS (Criminal Justice Information System) within a designated timed period; Successful completion of agency background investigation to include polygraph examination; Experience in clerical/secretarial, telephone/customer service & computer operations required; Must be able to type thirty (30) words per minute; Ability to communicate articulately by telephone, person-to-person, and in written form; Ability to speak clearly & articulate information over a communication radio; Ability to learn communications computer systems in order to enter & retrieve information from MILES, NCIC, CJIS, and the CAD systems; Ability to develop an excellent working knowledge of Wicomico County geography; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; Ability to work with sensitive information & maintain confidentiality and handle stressful situations.
