Job Summary: The Food Prep and Plating Specialist is responsible for preparing ingredients and assembling dishes for presentation for dine-in and catering customers. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for ensuring that each dish is both visually appealing and consistent with the restaurant’s culinary standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation:
- Prepare ingredients for cooking and assembling dishes, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
- Measure and mix ingredients as directed by chefs or kitchen leads.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep station, ensuring all items are stored correctly.
- Follow food safety and sanitation standards at all times.
- Assist with cooking tasks under the supervision of the chef when necessary.
- Plating:
- Plate food boards, sandwiches, salads, and snacks/appetizers according to restaurant specifications, ensuring each plate meets aesthetic standards and is visually appealing.
- Maintain consistency in plating, ensuring portion sizes, garnishes, and overall presentation are uniform across all dishes.
- Work closely with the kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure timely delivery of plates.
- Adjust plating techniques for special dietary requests or special orders as needed.
- Inventory and Stock Management:
- Ensure proper storage of all food items, rotating stock to maintain freshness.
- Keep track of food items to ensure the kitchen has enough supplies, communicating with management when stock needs replenishing.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries of ingredients.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with chefs, line cooks, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during service.
- Communicate effectively to ensure that plating is coordinated with kitchen timing and dish delivery.
- Maintaining Cleanliness:
- Maintain a clean and orderly workstation throughout the shift.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen tools, dishes, and equipment after use.
- Follow all hygiene and food safety regulations to prevent cross-contamination.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in food preparation or plating in a professional kitchen.
- Strong attention to detail and an eye for aesthetics.
- Ability to follow recipes and plating instructions accurately.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to work efficiently and quickly in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication skills and a team player.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Active Food Handler's card required
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for chopping, plating, and using kitchen tools.
Schedule:
- Part-time 30-35 hours per week.
