The Project Accountant is a key member of the Capital Budget Team with emphasis on the New York Aquarium Restoration (NYAR) project team and is responsible for the financial reporting and instrumental for the project and timely submission of reimbursement requests for government funded expenditures.

Job Summary
The Project Accountant is a key member of the Capital Budget Team with emphasis on the New York Aquarium Restoration (NYAR) project team and is responsible for the financial reporting and instrumental for the project and timely submission of reimbursement requests for government funded expenditures.
Major Responsibilities
- Review and audit design and construction invoices in preparation of payment
- Prepare and compile highly detailed and complex payment requests, including all documentation required for timely reimbursement of work performed on government grant funded projects.
- Maintain accurate and organized project records to support future audits.
- Liaise with the external construction manager on scope review and billing cycles for the NYAR project and other projects as necessary to resolve issues and ensure proper billing and documentation.
- Interact with government agencies on reimbursement related issues with government-funded projects.
- Prepare project reports, including but not limited to quarterly reports, change order, and variance analysis reporting for the NYAR project and other projects as needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally within WCS to review invoices, reimbursement requests and, prepare accurate financial reports and resolve any issues that may arise.
Qualification Requirements
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field required.
- Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in Accounting or related field required
- Analytical experience and detail-oriented mindset required
- Ability to perform quality assurance reviews required
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time to meet deadlines required
- Financial audit or forensic accounting experience preferred
- Demonstrated capital project and construction accounting experience, with an emphasis on G702 and G703 format and construction experience preferred
- Knowledge of New York City, New York State and FEMA procurement and reimbursement processes preferred.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with ERP systems a plus.
