- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including food storage areas, and adhere to all health and safety standards.
- Keep an up-to-date inventory of ingredients, supplies, and kitchen equipment, and place orders as needed to ensure a steady supply of necessary items.
- Manage the preparation of meals using local ingredients and traditional Alaskan ingredients when possible.
- Assist with food-related events and special requests for clients, such as custom meals for celebrations or holidays.
- Ensure that meals are served on time and at the correct temperature, maintaining a high standard of presentation and quality.
- Adapt to various situations, including remote conditions and diverse guest preferences, with flexibility and creativity.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a chef, ideally with experience in remote or rustic settings, such as lodges, resorts, or wilderness camps.
- Ability to plan, prepare, and serve high-quality meals for large groups, often in challenging conditions.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards, with the ability to manage kitchen operations independently.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Willingness to live at the lodge for the entire season (accommodation and meals provided).
- Ability to work in a remote, self-sufficient environment with a positive attitude and strong problem-solving skills.
- Adaptable mindset – ability to adjust, think on your feet, and make things work when conditions or plans change unexpectedly.
- Ability to accommodate diverse dietary needs, including but not limited to vegetarian, gluten-free, allergy-friendly, and other special dietary preferences.
- Ability to work well with a team – strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset, as you will be working closely with lodge staff and management to ensure a smooth operation.
