What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trail Maintenance position at WildSide?
This is a unique opportunity to actually blaze the trail for a new and exciting outdoor recreation concept in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee! We are seeking Trail Maintenance who will take charge in creating and maintaining mountain bike trails throughout 850 acres of beautiful mountain property. The ideal candidate will have experience both in large equipment operation and hand tools, while also having the vision to help build, create and maintain bike trails as our Adventure Park nears opening day and beyond.
This is a creative opportunity to navigate unique and challenging terrain in a natural and scenic environment! Here are the requirements:
Using necessary excavation and large equipment, build trail systems on the property, which includes 7-10 miles of bike trails (with future expansion in mind)
Focused on constructing scenic forest roads, off-road UTV routes and smaller mountain bike trails among other construction activities
Operate skid steers, mini excavators, bulldozers and any other heavy equipment as needed
Use of hand tools, chain saws, off road vehicles, tractors, axes, nail guns, circular saws, ATVs, etc.
Operate additional heavy equipment in compliance with the companys operating safety policies and procedures including soil excavation/remediation equipment
Follow appropriate standard operating procedures as guideline for operating and maintaining vehicles
Moves and positions raw materials and finished components with use of material moving equipment
Responsible for the safety and maintenance of all tools and equipment, including performing routine maintenance as necessary
Constantly monitors all areas of the bike park for potential hazards including, but not limited to, downed trees, limbs and branches, missing or damaged signage, soil or rock erosion, feature damage or degradation
Ensures all trail work areas are finished properly and aesthetically by removing, burying, or neatly stacking all trees and large limbs
Perform motorized and non-motorized trail maintenance to professional standards with the goals of stability, sustainability and trail-rating appropriateness
Manages water drainage on trails using drainage pipe, culverts, ditches and sustainable trail designs which minimize erosion and enhance the sustainability of the trails
Coordinates work for the trail crew and assist other positions such as maintenance or engineering services as necessary
Together with site General Manager, will assist in leading planning, evaluating and training ensure work completion while ensuring safety of the trail crew
Ensures property signage is installed on all trails, features and drops prior to opening
Complete assigned projects with minimal supervision
Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
At least 5 years of large equipment operation experience
Must have experience on both foot pedal and joystick operated mini-excavators and skid-steers
Must have mechanical knowledge for all types of equipment maintenance and repair
Must be able to use hand tools, hammers, saws, rakes, shovels, chainsaws, axes, etc.
Experience in felling trees
At least two years' experience in trail building and maintenance, preferably in a bike park environment
Mountain/trail biking experience is a plus
Must be able to operate a company vehicle including ATVs and trucks
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and team lift heavier objects
Ability to work on feet all day, at various heights, in rough terrain, and in all weather conditions
Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odor, noise, weather extremes or similar elements most of the workday
