Wiley University is seeking a Director of Housing and Residence Life, to maintain an atmosphere in the residence centers that is conducive to learning, a healthy living environment that supports and challenges students in their personal and academic development during their time at Wiley University. The Director provides vision and leadership for the department and ensures that the formal and informal communities that are created contribute to the college mission. Direct, train and supervise the Area Coordinators, Community Assistants and overall responsibility for all residential students.
Primary Responsibilities : The Director of Residence Life is responsible for :
- 1.Selecting, training and supervising a team of paraprofessional residential staff consisting of Residential Hall managers, Area Coordinators, Community Assistants and Residence Center Council;
- 2.Supporting students in crisis and responding to their social and emotional needs;
- 3.Supervising an on-call team and serving in the on-call rotation;
- 4.Coordinating responses to follow-up with students in academic difficulty;
- 5.Directing residence hall programming;
- 6.Advising student groups or student leaders;
- 7.Planning and assessment;
- 8.Participating actively as a member of the student life team.
- The Director of Housing and Residence Life will establish friendly personal and work relationships with his / her staff.
- The Director of Housing and Residence Life must treat all students fairly and should keep his / her mind open to new ideas and methods.
- At all times the Director must respect the privacy of the students and should not reveal confidences to others.
- The Director should be sincere, open minded, tolerant and flexible.
- The Director must be objective in his / her attitude and approach to problems.
- He / she must be committed to the educational process and helping students achieve their educational and personal goals.
- A Director develops working relationships with offices in the division.
- A Director should hold weekly staff meetings.
- The Director works closely with the community assistants, Residence center Council and work-study students in the performance of their duties and leadership roles.
- The Director works closely with the residential center staff in making and filing various reports.
- A Director must be able to interpret College policies and housing procedures to staff and all hall residents.
- The Director attends conferences and workshops for professional development, growth and to represent the College.
- The Director must establish an environment within the hall that is friendly, pleasant and conductive to study and living.
- The Director must attempt to recognize signs of campus unrest and work to help residents understand the issues they encounter. All campus unrest must be reported to the Vice President for Student Development.
- The Director must demonstrate professional ethics in all situations.
- The Director must request all leave in advance and report emergency leave from duty to the Vice President for Student Development.
- The leave must be approved prior to the leave by the Vice President for Student Development.
- The Director will assign other responsibilities to his / her staff as deems necessary.
Qualifications :
Applicant minimum of a bachelor’s degree, (preference given to a master’s degree); extensive knowledge of principles and in practices various areas of comprehensive student affairs programs.
