TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN I

This position is 12 months. This position reports to our Central Services Technology Department and works on site Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.


Wilkes County Schools provides a robust variety of state and local benefit offerings that include but are not limited to health insurance, annual leave, sick leave, holiday pay, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, state pension plan, and other ancillary benefits. Benefit eligibility is determined by job status and percentage of employment. In addition, Wilkes County Schools offers a local salary supplement of 5%.

NATURE OF WORK


The Technology Technician I performs skilled repair and maintenance of all technology- related equipment as well as technical support for all technology-related systems. Employee provides technical support to users including, but not limited to, technical advice on equipment setup and operation, general troubleshooting, and software installation. Employee typically works in a centralized microcomputer environment or in a school. Employee reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and repair manuals to provide required technical support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Repairs, maintains, and upgrades technology-related equipment.
  • Reads and interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
  • Operates standard and specialized electronics devices in testing and troubleshooting computers and other technology-related equipment.
  • Maintains an inventory of electronics components needed to make timely repairs.
  • Uses a work-order tracking system for routine repair and maintenance of equipment. Refers complex problems to higher level technical support.
  • One day per week delivers mail and packages to all 22 schools and administrative locations using the school vehicle.


Performs other related work as required.


MINIMUM TRAINING


  • Graduation from a two-year college or technical school and one year experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and tools including computers, scanners, computer software, computer hardware, sharing devices, etc. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.


Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, technical manuals, newsletters, trade journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, training materials, system documentation, etc. using prescribed formats.


Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


  • Basic knowledge of electronic principles and fundamentals of physics as applied in electronics.
  • General knowledge of computers and related technology devices.
  • General knowledge of electronics devices.
  • Familiarity with the operation and uses of standard test equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematical principles as applied in electronic circuit analysis.
  • Ability to systematically troubleshoot standard electronics devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with users.
