Position Summary: This key leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a 24/7 ceramic media manufacturing facility located in Eufaula, AL. As the Plant Manager, you will drive operational excellence, foster a high-performance culture, and lead a team of approximately 60 operations colleagues. Your responsibilities will span production, budgeting, employee safety and health, product quality, process engineering, research and development, shipping and logistics, and compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
To succeed in this role, you must be an excellent communicator who can cultivate strong interdepartmental and cross-functional relationships. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Manufacturing, you will conduct all work in alignment with CARBO’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership
- Maintain and promote a strong site safety culture by ensuring adherence to Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) standards, as well as other safety laws, regulations, and practices.
- Act as a safety role model, working closely with the corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) team to develop and implement safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Address unsafe behaviors and conditions promptly and effectively.
- Maintain required environmental, health, and safety records and documentation.
- Operational Excellence
- Oversee daily and long-term production planning to meet current and forecasted requirements, ensuring timely and accurate shipment of finished products.
- Ensure production processes meet company quality and cost objectives.
- Minimize downtime and costs by coordinating maintenance activities with manufacturing.
- Drive continuous improvement by implementing Lean Manufacturing initiatives and cost-reduction projects.
- Leadership and Development
- Foster open communication with all employees to maintain a safe, collaborative, and harmonious workforce.
- Address employee concerns, maintain high morale, and document and manage disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Actively engage in the development and training of both salaried and hourly employees to build a highly skilled and motivated team.
- Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure plant operating policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local laws.
- Estimate and track production costs, as well as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Additional Responsibilities
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and logistics.
- Perform other related tasks as required.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- A four-year degree in a technical field, preferably engineering, and at least four years of supervisory experience with increasing responsibility in manufacturing leadership; OR a minimum of 10 years of hands-on production leadership experience at a senior level with P&L responsibilities.
- Proven track record of leadership in safety.
- Strong coaching and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated leadership in senior roles with multiple direct reports.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to take on tasks beyond the defined scope when necessary.
Working Conditions
- Environment: 90% office, 10% plant.
- Exposure: Moderate noise levels, vibrations, bright lights, dust, fumes, gases, and varied climates (hot, cold, humidity, rain, snow, etc.).
- Safety Gear: Must wear appropriate protective equipment (e.g., safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, hard hats) when required.
- Mobility: Ability to travel throughout the facility for safety inspections and operational oversight.
