Job Description: Individual will be responsible for teaching the MISD-designed Summer Scholars Program, an instructional school-based program targeting literacy and math intervention for students entering Grades 2-5, with identified needs in literacy and math. Students will be engaged in comprehensive and meaningful literacy and math instruction using evidence-based practices to address their individual needs. The goal of the Summer Scholars Program is to strengthen literacy and math achievement.
Position Department: Summer School
Report to: Billie Sczepaniak, Director of Curriculum and Educational Services
Teacher Hours:
- 8:00am-11:20am (including breakfast and lunch supervision)
- 40 minutes of daily paid prep time
- Total hours per day: 4
Teacher Days:
- Student Program Dates: June 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27
- Pre-Program set-up: June 12; 9:00am-12:00pm (3 hours)
- MISD In-Person Training (compensation provided by MISD) select one Literacy date AND one Math Date to attend.
- Literacy: June 10, 12:00pm-3:00pm OR June 10, 4:30pm-7:30pm OR June 11, 4:30pm-7:30pm OR June 12, 8:30am-11:30am*. *If you attend the June 12, 8:30-11:30am training, you will be allowed to adjust your pre-program set-up time.
- Math: June 10, 8:30am-11:30am OR June 10, 4:30pm-7:30pm OR June 12, 12:00pm-3:00pm OR June 12, 4:30-7:30pm
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Exemplary experience in teaching elementary literacy
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and engage students
- Enthusiastic, energetic, and positive professional with a growth mindset
- Must be available during the time requirements of the position
- Certification in CPR and first aid required
Responsibilities:
- Provide effective instructional methods based on a daily schedule outlined in training
- Administer pre and post assessments and submit to district camp coordinator
- Submit attendance records
- Plan appropriate instruction to support diverse student needs
- Supervise students during breakfast and lunch
