CUSTODIAN I
Part-time, Non-exempt, non-benefitted position

JOB DESCRIPTION:
General Statement Of Duties: Performs daily and deep cleaning and disinfection tasks related to custodial maintenance of assigned buildings including, but not limited to: Bob Keefer Center, Adult Activity Center, Dorris Ranch, Splash!, and Willamalane Park Swim Center. Performs related work as necessary.
Distinguishing Features Of The Class: An employee in this classification is responsible for keeping facilities clean and free of hazards. Incumbents work independently and use judgment in organizing work time to complete tasks. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification, but this position may provide occasional direction to lower-level custodial aides, volunteers or temporary employees. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor who reviews work based on quality and quantity.
Examples Of Essential Duties Performed: (Illustrative only. Any single position of a class will not necessarily involve all of the duties listed, and many positions will involve duties that are not listed.)
- Performs daily and deep cleaning and disinfection of assigned district facilities, which includes vacuuming, mopping, dusting, glass cleaning, pressure washing and floor maintenance.
- Moves and/or sets up furniture as needed for meetings, programs, or classes.
- Collects and disposes of trash and recycling in and around buildings.
- Refills soap and paper dispensers, and other related supplies.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and tools required for cleaning and disinfection.
- Performs facility lock up and arming/disarming of alarms.
- Operates powered cleaning equipment as necessary to perform deep cleaning duties.
- Maintains communication with Custodial Supervisor and Program Manager, in accordance with department guidelines.
- Maintains a record of activities performed.
- Performs additional job-related duties as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in cleaning public facilities, including swimming pools and recreation facilities; related safety practices, safety equipment and precautions in performing responsibilities.
Skills: The use of cleaning tools, powered cleaning equipment and proper handling of cleaning and disinfecting solutions.
Abilities: Work independently; exercise initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate professionally and effectively with supervisor and other staff; lift and move tables, and chairs; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other staff members and guests.
Physical Demands of The Position: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, often in conjunction with reaching for and manipulating objects and cleaning equipment. This position requires the employee to be standing/walking for over 75% of the work period. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis such as boxes, bags, small equipment, etc. and may occasionally require the employee to materials heavier than 100 pounds with the assistance of a dolly or cart. Manual dexterity and coordination, including but not limited to grasping and squeezing, are required for the vast majority of the work period. Work is mostly performed indoors, but some outdoor work may be required. Exposure to loud noise is moderate and may occasionally requires the use of ear protection. Personal Protective Equipment: Position requires the use of chemical resistant/liquid-proof gloves, work gloves as needed, ear protection, splash goggles, and safety glasses as needed for specific tasks. Particle Mask; when dusting and other miscellaneous tasks where needed. Closed toe, rubber soled shoes at all times (assists with traction on slippery surface).
Minimum Experience And Training: Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties. Minimum age for this position is 18 years old.
Preferred Experience And Training: Three years or more experience in custodial maintenance or similar work. Experience with floor maintenance such as carpet extraction, floor refinishing. Experience working independently. Experience with work order systems and deep cleaning routines. An OSHA 10-hour training card for general industries. An Advanced Custodial Technician Certification through ISSA’s Cleaning Management Institute.
Necessary Special Requirements: A driver’s license and use of personal vehicle may be required for movement between facilities for some positions. Because this is a safety sensitive position a drug screen and background check is required.
