JOB DESCRIPTION:
General Statement of Duties: Performs manual and unskilled labor in the cleaning and maintenance of park grounds and facilities; does job-related work as required.
Distinguishing Features of the Class: An employee in this classification performs unskilled labor and does not operate heavy equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Park Program Manager, although the incumbent may perform work under the lead of other Park Services staff. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES PERFORMED:

- Performs general grounds maintenance, which includes hand mowing, edging, weeding, mulching, and hedge trimming.
- Performs brush, garbage, debris and litter removal from park grounds and parking lots.
- Assists in minor maintenance and repair of park facilities and site amenities.
- Cleans park rest rooms.
- Provides assistance in irrigation maintenance and repair, including digging trenches and repairing irrigation components.
- Prepares and maintains athletic and play fields. Reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Assists in setting up and taking down large portable stage, including moving heavy floor extensions, setting up a sound and lighting system.
- Reports citizen concerns; reports any unusual park condition or safety issues to supervisor.
- Performs other job-related duties or tasks as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: Some knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in park maintenance and repair; safety practices and precautions in performing responsibilities.
Skills: The operation of hand tools and equipment used in performing duties.
Abilities: Perform heavy, repetitive, manual labor; work in adverse weather conditions; understand and follow oral and written instructions; deal courteously and tactfully with the public; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the general public.
Physical Demands of the Position: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, twist, kneel, reach, and stoop, often in conjunction with reaching for or manipulating objects. The position requires the employee carry and use a leaf blower for extended periods of time. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials such as bags, small equipment, leaf blower, etc weighing up to 20 pounds often, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and seldom up to 100 pounds with assistance. Manual dexterity and coordination, including but not limited to grasping and squeezing, are required over 75% of the work period. The duties of the position involve standing for the vast majority of the work period. The duties of this position are most always performed outside, which means exposure to heat in summer and cold in winter is likely. Exposure to noise is moderate, and at times requires the use of ear protection while using noise-producing equipment. Personal Protective Equipment: Hard hat, landscaping gloves, ear protection (ear plugs or muffs), particle mask, safety glasses, chaps, boots, long pants (Boots and long pants not provided). Nitrile gloves for the administration of first aid.
Experience And Training: Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties.
Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of valid Oregon driver's license; safe driving record; possession of or ability to obtain first aid and CPR certification. Must be 18 years old to operate necessary equipment. Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment.
