Lab (Bio-Adaptable Musculoskeletal Materials Laboratory) at the College of William & Mary seeks a passionate doctoral researcher to join our team in the Applied Sciece Department in Fall 2025. This role offers the chance to engage in innovative research on bio-adaptable materials for musculoskeletal tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, significantly advancing the field and improving patient outcomes.
About the Lab
The Ba.M.M. Lab develops advanced biomedical materials to meet the needs of musculoskeletal tissues. Utilizing 3D bioprinting and biomaterial synthesis, our research addresses clinical challenges related to comorbidities, sex, gender, and other patient-specific factors. We aim to create inclusive and adaptable solutions for regenerative medicine.
In this position, you will:
- Engage in the design and characterization of bio-adaptable materials for musculoskeletal applications.
- Develop 3D bioprinting methods and bioink formulations.
- Conduct studies to evaluate biomaterial-tissue interactions.
- Investigate the effects of clinical factors, including diabetes, bone age, and hormones, on biomaterial performance.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team.
- Share findings through publications and presentations at conferences.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in applied science, biomedical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
- Experience in biomaterial synthesis, 3D bioprinting, or biological assays.
- Strong skills in experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, or musculoskeletal biology.
- Experience with 3D printing software and techniques (e.g., CAD, bioprinting).
- Familiarity with characterization methods like microscopy, spectroscopy, rheology, and molecular biology.
- Published scientific work or presentations.
We offer
- Access to state-of-the-art facilities, including 3D bioprinters.
