Summary
The Planner position is responsible and fully accountable for the organization, schedule execution, planning, and input of engineering design releases into the ERP system. The Planner will assume complete responsibility to generate detailed instructions for the manufacture of complex components and assemblies, including tooling, support equipment, and consultation with shop management.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates design release schedule with engineering department to ensure timely data entry.
- Reviews contract and technical compliance requirements in order to identify special process or test/ inspection requirements.
- Generates and outlines detailed Bill of Material and Bill of Operations to identify manufacture sequencing to best maximize shop efficiency.
- Creates material and labor demand via part and job engineering in ERP system.
- Creates work instructions to support the established method of manufacture and quality requirements.
- Coordinates with Operations, Project Management and Procurement to ensure efficient usage of all resources to achieve company goals and meet customer requirements.
- Communicates with department stakeholders to ensure their planning needs are accommodated.
- Coordinate with master scheduler and production supervisors to control the flow of parts, minimize down time and/or incomplete deliverables, as well as other related issues.
- Advises internal customers on options for corrections or mitigations to current plan. Translates the customer’s instructions, implements required changes, and executes the determined path forward.
- Mentor and train team members on systems and processes to contribute to the overall success of the business.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Travel on an as-required basis.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Additional work hours as needed.
Requirements
Preferred:
- Education: Bachelor's degree (minor or focus on Business/Engineering preferred) or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Five years of planning experience (within custom manufacturing preferred)
- Work well with little direction/supervision.
- Must be a self-starter and highly motivated.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, capable of coming up with creative approaches for generating new ideas and improving existing processes or products in the unit.
- Demonstrated experience with analyzing, organizing, and entering information associated with documentation
- Other Skills: Ability to multi-task, interface at all levels of management, work independently and in team-settings.
- Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office and MRP system functions.
- Epicor ERP software experience or a comparable ERP software system.
