JOB SUMMARY

Reporting directly to a Counselor Supervisor, responsible for providing counseling and mental health services to Juvenile Services youth and families, either in residential or field settings.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

  • Provides individual, group and family counseling to youth and their families
  • Conducts crisis screenings for new clients
  • Assists in providing and coordinating community resources based on youth and family need
  • Participates in identifying and treatment of mental health needs
  • Responds to mental health crisis and provides crisis intervention
  • Assists in planning and implementation of mental health programs
  • Serves as mental health liaison for youth, families and medical professionals
  • Supports youth and families with transition and continuity of mental health care
  • Conducts mental health and counseling assessments
  • Creates and maintains all mental health charts and documentation
  • Coaches non-mental health personnel on youth mental health issues
  • Assists with the training and development of counseling interns
  • Conducts home and school visits to track progress
  • Trains Juvenile Services personnel on trauma care
  • Provides progress update to mental health professionals
  • Attends all meetings and trainings as necessary
  • Serves as on-call counselor on rotating basis as assigned
  • Performs special duties as assigned

  • Contact with persons accused or adjudicated of crimes
  • Exposure to aggressive behavior, bodily fluids and youth with mental health needs
  • Regular travel between work sites as required
  • IRREGULAR HOURS

  • Includes regular occurring evening and weekend hours and occasional holiday hours
  • Work schedule and on-call schedule assigned
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Position requires 24 hour on-call schedule rotation
  • May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency
  • Essential personnel for emergency situations; discretion of department director
  • Regular attendance is required

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in behavioral health, counseling or related field OR graduation within three (3) months of employment and licensing requirements (see licensure requirements below)
  • At least six (6) months of experience working with youth or families
  • Working knowledge of specific job-related technology
  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

    Required within six (6) months of hire :

  • One of the following :
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Associate

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or intern / Associate
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
  • Associate Sex Offender Therapist Provider (ASOTP)
  • Licensed Sex Offender Therapist Provider (LSOTP)
  • Required within thirty (30) days of employment

  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six (6) months experience as a licensed mental health professional
  • One (1) year of experience working with youth
  • Bilingual - Spanish

    Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal records check. The offer of employment will be contingent upon a non-disqualifying criminal history / sex offender registration background check, child abuse registry check, and passing a drug test and physical exam (provided by County). The Diana Screen® is a sexual risk screening tool used by Williamson County Juvenile Services to screen candidates moving forward in the process to work or volunteer with our youth. The Diana Screen® is administered on a computer in our office and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. The Diana Screen® helps to identify people who may step over a sexual boundary line or who may present a sexual risk to children and teens. The Diana Screen® is used as one part of Williamson County Juvenile Service's overall application / interview / screening process.By completing The Diana Screen® you are helping to make Williamson County Juvenile Services as safe as possible for the youth in our care.
