What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Technical Engineer - Road & Bridge position at Williamson County?
Responsible for providing technical guidance and training to engineering staff. Additionally responsible for developing and implementing technical quality control and assurance programs for all technical documents.
- Develops training procedures and materials for the preparation of transportation engineering plans, specifications & estimates (PS&E)
- Develops training procedures and technical materials for land development, subdivision plats and construction plan review
- Develops training procedures and technical materials for drainage and floodplain analysis and report preparation
- Develops and implements quality control and quality assurance programs for transportation, land development and drainage activities
- Prepares technical briefs and advises Supervising Engineers, Division Directors, Deputy Director of Infrastructure and Senior Director of Infrastructure on technical matters relating to transportation, land development and drainage
- Serves as the County’s technical expert on Governmental and Technical Committees
- Reviews engineering plans, specifications & estimates (PS&E) for compliance with legal and technical standards
- Writes technical criteria and policy for consideration for implementation by the Commissioners Court
Hydraulics and Hydrology Assignment
- Performs advanced planning, engineering analysis and design for transportation, drainage, and land development projects
- Reviews Floodplain Development Permits, including interpreting flood studies and determining site-specific flood elevations
- Responds to drainage/floodplain complaints and coordinates with public to develop feasible solutions utilizing site visits, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and investigations
- Identifies potential floodplain violations and collaborates with inspections on resolution

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Ten (10) years of experience planning, design and construction of roadway, drainage, environmental or land development projects
- Four (4) years of demonstrated lead or supervisory experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Required
- P.E. (Professional Engineer) Licensure
Required within thirty (30) days of employment
- Valid Texas driver’s license
Required within six (6) months of employment
- Texas P.E. (Professional Engineer) Licensure
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Ten (10) years of roadway geometric and drainage design experience
- Seven (7) years of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Floodplain Development experience including 3D flood modeling experience
- Four (4) years of pavement design experience
- Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
- Six (6) years traffic engineering experience
- Twelve (12) years of experience as a professional engineer planning, design and construction of roadway, drainage, environmental or land development projects
- Eighteen (18) years of experience in roadway planning and design capacity
- CFM (Certified Floodplain Manager) Certification
