The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for anticipated, Temporary Summer Work - Attendance Compliance Specialist. Location is Williamsport Area Middle School and Williamsport Area High School, subject to determination by the Superintendent. Position start date is June 9 - June 27, 2025, 8am to 12pm Monday - Friday.

Experience as an Attendance Compliance Specialist is required. An assessment of personal computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, may be required. Experience working with students and families is required. This position also requires a valid PA driver’s license. Qualifications for this position shall be based upon applicable verified work experience and verified educational/training credentials. Qualifications for this position are defined solely by the District, including an employee’s work attendance, disciplinary history, credentials and other job specific qualifications.

Basic Functions:
The Attendance Compliance Specialist ensures that all school age children are attending school regularly by investigating causes of unexcused or excessive absences, communicating with families and assisting them in problem-solving, issuing attendance-based warnings, and helping to break down attendance barriers with families.
Education & Experience:
This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma; college-degree preferred. Safety-Care QBS Certification is required. The ability to operate a personal computer to develop databases and word processing is also required. An assessment of personal computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, may be required. This position also requires a valid PA driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
This position requires demonstrated patience and the ability to relate to students, parents, and staff members of all cultural backgrounds and experiences. Experience in working with students and families is required. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are also required. Must be able and willing to travel district-wide to conduct student home visits.
Authority & Responsibilities:

- Coordinates with school social worker school on school wide efforts and absenteeism prevention programming. (E)
- Investigates cases of unexcused and excessive absences and tardies, and assist with enforcement of compulsory attendance laws. (E)
- Educates families on importance of attendance with a focus on prevention. (E)
- Intervenes and works with families to fix underlying issues that lead to absenteeism. (E)
- Works closely with school office staff to monitor student attendance and absenteeism in schools. (E)
- Interprets and communicates compulsory attendance laws to students and families. (E)
- Emails and calls parents to set up and hold attendance improvement meetings. (E)
- Works with student services team and social worker as directed to assist families with breaking down attendance barriers to school. (E)
- Picks up parents and students for meetings as requested by school district administration and social workers following district procedures. (E)
- Visits homes of students as requested by administration and social workers. (E)
- Confers regularly with social worker, school outreach, counselors and principals to identify problems with attendance, truancy, and tardiness. (E)
- Compiles and maintains accurate records of student attendance and truancy elimination plans. (E)
- Investigates and supports to retrieve school materials and technology from withdrawn students. (E)
- Ability to write reports with clarity. (E)
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students and parents. (E)
- Ability to maintain student and family confidentiality at all times. (E)
- Participates in professional development as directed to improve job related skills. (E)
Physical Requirements:
VERY HEAVY- Exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Auditory and Visual Requirements:
Within normal ranges with or without correction.
