Job Summary
The Safety and Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing workplace safety and regulatory compliance programs within the boatyard. This position ensures adherence to all local, state, and federal safety regulations, environmental laws, and industry best practices. The role involves conducting training, performing audits, and maintaining records to foster a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and site inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, and near-misses; develop corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate and lead safety training programs, including emergency response, PPE usage, hazardous material handling, and other job-specific safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste disposal, spill prevention, and hazardous material storage.
- Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, training sessions, and compliance reports.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and ensure timely completion of required reporting.
- Develop and oversee the boatyard’s emergency response plan and conduct regular drills.
- Work closely with department managers to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Stay updated on changes in safety regulations and best practices, ensuring the company remains compliant and proactive in its approach to safety.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management, compliance, or a related field, preferably within the maritime or industrial sector.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental regulations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels.
- Experience in conducting safety audits, investigations, and risk assessments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to maintain detailed records and reports.
- Certification in safety programs such as OSHA 30/HAZWOPER is a plus.
- Involves time spent in both an office setting and the boatyard.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Work is performed in a marine and industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be necessary.
