What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN ST: RN Staff position at Willis Knighton Health?
This 18-bed stepdown unit offers a comprehensive environment for nurses to enhance their skills and knowledge. The floor accepts patients between the intensive care unit (ICU) and a general med-surg floor. We provide a heightened level of observation and care, including management of life-sustaining medical equipment and moderate to advanced wound care.
Nurses have specialized skills in caring for and weaning patients from cardiac monitors, chest tubes, and other devices still in use after ICU. In addition to clinical skills, stepdown nurses utilize strong critical thinking, time management, and communication abilities. The unit provides opportunities to learn advanced skills such as monitoring arterial lines and titrating medication drips. The nursing team is well-supported by ancillary staff, including unit clerks and nursing assistants, with a goal nurse to patient ratio of 1:3.
Nurses choosing this unit also have the opportunity to become ACLS certified and attend a critical care course, further enhancing their professional development. The unit is part of Willis Knighton North, which offers a Nurse Residency Program for new graduates, demonstrating its commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals.
