Position Summary
The Sewer Operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties required to operate, maintain, and repair the facilities of the Willistown Township wastewater collection system.
Duties
- Operates, maintains, and repairs the facilities of the sewer collection system and pump station to ensure the safe and efficient transfer of wastewater through the Township, based on the knowledge and skills listed herein
- Operates equipment and utilizes a variety of hand and power tools to operate, maintain and repair the sewer collection system
- Operates jet truck and accessories
- Operates sewer televising equipment
- Maintains rights-of-way, building and properties used for the collection and transfer of wastewater
- Records information and files reports for equipment operation and wastewater flows
- Responds to emergencies outside normal working hours to correct conditions that affect the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater collection system
- Must be available for scheduled and emergency overtime regarding Township facilities and streets
- Performs PA One-Calls, mark outs, responses and all other responsibilities
- Assist with other Public Works related tasks as needed
- Snow Removal

Qualifications
Education: High School graduate/GED equivalent or Trade School graduate preferred
Experience: Five years sewer operations or mechanical trades
Certifications:
- Certified satellite wastewater system operator (WWE4 through DEP)
- CDL Class B with air brake endorsement and tank endorsement
Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater collection and treatment systems
- Thorough knowledge of sewer pipe installation, connection and repair
- Thorough knowledge of wastewater pumping station plant operation and maintenance
- Skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment
- Ability to perform process control calculations
- Ability to observe proper safety regulations and precautions
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instruction

The employee will be required to work shifts greater than (8) hours during winter and emergency operations.

While performing these duties, the employee regularly works near stationary and moving mechanical equipment under all weather conditions. The employee may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may require the use of hearing protection.
