Willowbrook Arts Camp is seeking an experienced camp administrator to direct its award-winning summer day camp held over 6 weeks at Browns Ferry Park in Tualatin, Oregon. Position Summary
The Camp Program Director manages the development, implementation, and improvements of Willowbrook’s summer camp and potential year-round offerings. This person is responsible for planning and communicating with staff and other contributors to all programming with an emphasis on interest-driven opportunities. This position has an expectation of 40 hours per week September through May, with the probability of longer hours during the camp months of June-August. During camp, at least one night per week will run late for performances. Remote work is possible September through May, with the option to work out of our office space located in Tualatin, Oregon and occasional in-person meetings may be required. Travel may occur 1-2 times per year to attend industry conferences.
Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, manage and improve overall programming of camp
- Recruit, interview, hire, supervise and support camp staff of 75 people
- Supervise and work closely with seasonal Program Assistant and Village Manager
- In congress with the Executive Director, plan and implement staff development and training, staff manual and staff evaluation systems
- Handle questions, problems and concerns of parents/guardians, as well as provide camper behavioral support on a case by case basis
- Handle emergency situations in conjunction with the Executive Director and other core staff
- Assess the overall camp program and activities to see if there are any improvements which need to be made for optimum functioning
- Actively promote and support the mission of Willowbrook and its programming and relationships with the community at large
- Provide a welcoming and inclusive environment and experience, while creating positive relationships for campers, families, staff, volunteers and our community
- Work collaboratively with the City of Tualatin and other community partners
- Help to develop and adhere to the annual budget
- Identify opportunities to utilize and engage volunteers
- Create and post engaging social media content to promote staff hiring, camp registration, events, and more
- Monitor and manage social media including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts; reply to messages and inquiries on these platforms
- Assist with all communication and outreach with summer staff, current families, alumni and general public
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Required Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three or more years supervisory experience
- Adaptive leadership skills and ability to problem solve
- Strong organizational skills
- Entrepreneurial, creative and innovative
- Ability to manage projects and balance multiple priorities, while maintaining a positive outlook
- Strong active listening skills and ability to negotiate positive outcomes
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team
- Must be physically able to work outside all day and lift and move up to 50 lbs
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, early mornings and occasional weekends, particularly during the summer months
- Must possess or be willing to obtain CPR/first aid training
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
- Microsoft Office, Google Suite and CRM fluency
Preferred Skills or Experience
- Expertise in child development and positive behavior management
- Proven ability to create interest driven arts programs for youth
- Experience with art and nature education
- Excellent skills in Spanish strongly desired
- Knowledge of Willowbrook or familiar with Willowbrook philosophies
- Experience hiring and supervising large numbers of seasonal or temporary staff
- Aware of OSHA laws and behavioral camper management regulations
Salary and Benefits
$50,000-$58,000 based on experience and Spanish fluency
