Description
Primary Function :
The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for performing insurance verifications and obtaining all necessary authorizations / referrals for Surgical Cases and pre-collecting out of pocket expense based on insurance plan and benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Utilizes web-based and telephone communications to perform insurance verifications within 48 hours of receipt of reservation / notification for both inpatient and outpatient surgical cases.
- Communicates effectively with Patient Accounts Manager as necessary to ensure prompt resolution of verification or authorization issues.
- Identifies out-of-pocket expenses for all surgical cases and notifies patients of their financial responsibilities.
- Maintains log of expected payments from patients on a daily basis
- Develops daily reports of previous days pending cases and communicates explanations to the Patient Accounts Manager.
- Meets / exceeds performance expectations and completes work within the required time frames.
- Articulates critical information in a clear and informative manner to patients, guarantors, family members, clinical staff, other hospital personnel, vendors, physicians.
- Functions as an effective team member
- Demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and accountability when changes are made in job description and responsibility, including performing all qualified duties throughout other areas of the hospital
- Strives to maintain the confidentiality of all patients and their families / significant other(s)
- Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peers, managers and other members of the health care team.
