Job Summary: The Skate Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe and friendly environment during skating activities at the Centennial Recreation Complex. As a first point of contact for customers, the Skate Guard must be well-informed, able to communicate effectively, and friendly, while cultivating an atmosphere of compliance with park district guidelines. This position requires excellent customer service skills, skating ability, and a positive attitude. The skate guard reports primarily to the Operations Supervisor, and will be managed by the Operations Lead on-duty during most shifts.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Overall Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare the rink for public skate sessions (setting cones on the ice, playing music, checking rental skates)
- Communicate facility expectations with patrons and promote safety during all skating activities including: public skate sessions, private rentals, birthday parties, and large figure skating/hockey events
- Distribute and collect rental skates from patrons before and after parties and public skate sessions, wiping down skates and storing them properly, using the pre-arranged sorting system
- Assist the Building Operations Lead with room setup and take down as it relates to parties and special events
- Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
- Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee
- Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
- Attend and participate in required safety trainings
- Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):
- Must be knowledgeable about Wilmette Park Districts facilities, staff, events and activities
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedural manuals
- Ice skating proficiency
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Education and/or Experience:
- Entry-level position
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Temperatures below 40 degrees while on the ice
- Frequently required to walk and skate
- The noise level is moderate to high at times
- Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
