Wilmington College, a private college in Wilmington, Ohio is seeking a highly qualified individual for the position of Assistant Professor of Theatre : Design & Tech for a 10-month, non-tenure position. The appointment will begin August 2025.
This role will involve teaching undergraduate courses in design and technical theatre, providing service to the Theatre Program, and engaging with professional theatres in the area.
Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching face-to-face undergraduate courses in the Theatre Program, including Scene Design, Stagecraft, Intro to Theatre, and Lighting Design. May teach additional design & theatre tech courses based upon interest and expertise. This position will teach a 3 / 3 course load each semester (12 hours).
Creating and executing scenic designs for theatre productions, typically 3 productions per school year. May design in additional areas (lighting, properties, sound, etc.) based upon expertise and program need. This could also include mentoring and supervising student-designers on the spring production. Summer design opportunities could be available.
Working in collaboration with other theatre faculty, staff, and students in meeting the production and curricular goals of the Theatre Program.
Providing academic advising and career guidance to students.
Assisting with recruitment and retention efforts for the Theatre Program and college
Engaging in professional and college service activities including assigned committee work and departmental assessments.
Connecting with professional theatres in the area to strengthen relationships and assist students with networking.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Applicants must hold or be nearing completion of a Master’s degree in theatre or related discipline or equivalent professional experience in theatrical design.
Previous teaching and / or professional experience is required.
Demonstrated history of positive professional collaboration with colleagues, students, and / or production team members.
Proven potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.
Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills
MFA in Theatre Design & Technology, Technical Direction, or equivalent is preferred.
Previous teaching experience at the university / college level.
Previous professional experience as an accomplished designer or technician.
Proficiency and ability to teach digital design & computer-aided drafting.
Expertise in an additional area of design or tech (lighting, stage management, properties, scene painting, projections, costuming, makeup, etc.).
Knowledge of ETC lighting consoles, Augmented, and programming moving lights.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Learning Management Systems like Blackboard, and Student Information Systems like Jenzabar.
