Assistant Professor of Exercise Science
Wilmington is an independent college with a reputation for providing “hands-on learning opportunities”. Founded in 1870 and still affiliated with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Wilmington College hosts 1,111 students this year on its main campus and additional sites. Wilmington College serves residential, online and Prison Education Programs. The College’s main campus is located in Wilmington, Ohio (population 12,400) and is within an hour of three major metropolitan areas : Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus.
The college has a 10-year continuing accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) through 2034. Specific areas with regional or national accreditation include : Teacher Education,- Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP); Sport Management- Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), and Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)
Position : The Exercise Science Department invites applications for a full-time (9-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science to begin in August of 2025. We are seeking candidates who will work collegially and effectively with faculty, students, staff, administrative colleagues, alumni, and professional communities served by the Sport Sciences Area. The Exercise Science major is among the most popular at the College and is the largest major within the Sport Sciences Area, which offers majors in Sport Management, Exercise Science-Allied Health concentration, Exercise Science—Sport Nutrition concentration and a minor in Exercise Science.
Faculty Responsibilities : Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curricular development, student advising, professional attainment, and service to the department, college, and community.
Successful Candidate will : Teach undergraduate level courses in the Exercise Science degree programs (Allied Health, Sport Nutrition). Such courses may include : Introduction to Exercise Science, Physiology of Exercise, Field Experience in Exercise Science, Sport Nutrition, Advanced Sport Nutrition, and Seminar Courses (Professional Organizations and Development, Ethics and Profession Best Practices). Have the ability to teach hands-on laboratory sessions in various courses listed as well as oversee student- run Thesis projects in the Senior Exercise Science Thesis course.
Preferred Qualifications : Doctorate in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, (Sport) Nutrition or related field from an accredited institution is required. ABD will be considered (tenure track status requires terminal degree in hand). ACSM or NSCA certification are preferred but not required. Evidence of excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, a demonstrated record of service, and evidence of scholarly research agenda.
