Position Overview
The Assistant Chief Engineer supports the Director of Engineering in maintaining the property’s mechanical and operational systems to ensure the safety, functionality, and comfort of the guests and staff. This role assumes full responsibility in the Director of Engineering`s absence and ensures all preventive maintenance, repairs, and projects are executed to high standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Support:
- Assume the duties of the Director of Engineering in their absence.
- Assist in scheduling work assignments, oversee inspections, and task completion by the engineering team.
- Train and mentor engineering staff, ensuring they adhere to standards and processes.
- Technical Expertise:
- Perform major equipment repairs and maintenance, including laundry and kitchen equipment, HVAC systems, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical systems, and more.
- Address unit-level maintenance issues such as broken cabinetry, sofa frames, major appliances, and other items as needed.
- Execute building exterior repairs and assigned “shop projects.”
- Operations and Documentation:
- Maintain daily engineering logs to track all completed tasks, equipment functionality, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Monitor and manage inventory, ensuring proper stock levels for all required items.
- Keep up-to-date records for work orders and projects, ensuring timely and efficient resolution.
- Preventive Maintenance:
- Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule to prolong equipment and facility lifespan.
- Identify and recommend necessary minor and major repairs.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in HVAC systems and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
- HVAC Certification required (EPA 608 Type 1 & 11)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking capabilities.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with team members and guests.
Physical ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring specific vision abilities
Required Education and Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience:
- At least one year of experience in a related field preferred.
Three years of hands-on experience in maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting required.
