What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Assistant - Life Skills Program position at Wilmington Middle School?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The classroom assistant supports students within and outside of the general education classroom according to their IEPs.
• This classroom assistant supports student(s) within the general education classroom both socially/ emotionally and academically. The assistant will shadow the designated student(s) with support in general education settings, lunch/recess, and specialists.
• Helps to implement the goals, modifications, and benchmarks established by the special education liaison within the Life Skills Program and the building.
• Works with the classroom teacher and assists in the classroom as the teacher deems appropriate. This may include small group instruction, giving frequent breaks, making modifications for students, and working with diverse learning styles.
• Will implement current IEP plans and data collection using the ACE data system.
• Working with all grade level colleagues along with the classroom teacher and special education liaisons.
• Experience working with children with behavioral challenges.
• Supports the implementation of behavior support plans and modifications/accommodations, as necessary. May also include but not limited to:
1. Implement strategies to positively reinforce on-task student behavior
2. Assist with the supervision and training of student(s) in the development of life skills and performance of daily activities
3. Assist with students physical needs, which may include diaper changing, restroom trip bandages, and feeding.
• Works with the classroom teacher and assists in the classroom, as the teacher deems appropriate. This may include small group instruction, giving frequent breaks, making modifications for students, and working with different modes of instruction and work production. May also include but not limited to:
1. Assist student(s) with the interpretation and completion of assignments.
2. Assist student(s) with review and drill.
3. Assist student (s)with speech and language development programs as directed by the Speech and Language Clinician or teacher
4. Assist in preparing and arranging lesson materials and displays for student(s)
5. Assist teacher(s) with subject area projects and activities in order for the student(s) to have a full understanding.
6. Providing the appropriate accommodations for curricular and extracurricular activities within the school day that impact the student(s) and schedule(s)
• Other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher/building principal.
