Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong analytical skills and a passion for financial accuracy? Wilson College is hiring for a skilled Accountant I/II to support our financial operations, maintain critical records, and contribute to the success of our institution.
The Accountant I/II is responsible for maintaining the Colleague software system, managing college endowment funds, reconciling general ledgers and bank accounts, overseeing temporarily restricted funds, and completing annual surveys. Success in this role requires a strong background in accounting and/or finance. The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain the Colleague software system related to non-payroll financial transactions, including ongoing software implementations and process improvements to enhance financial data management.
- Manage endowment projections, spreadsheets, and other endowment-related tasks.
- Prepare, review, and record asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information in accordance with internal controls.
- Maintain and balance subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions, while resolving discrepancies as needed.
- Summarize financial status by collecting data and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
- Maintain records of temporarily restricted funds.
- Prepare and compile data for annual surveys.
- Create and maintain reports in the Synoptix system.
- Develop and update internal instruction manuals.
- Prepare work papers and reports for Form 990.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
- Full-time, 12-month position
- Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM; however, flexibility is required as hours may vary based on departmental needs.
- Some work during evenings and weekends may be required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required.
- Experience in higher education or not-for-profit accounting is preferred.
- Familiarity with Ellucian Colleague is a plus.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
