Supervisor of Attendance
JOB GOAL
The attendance supervisor shall oversee the entire attendance program, which shall include: All system-wide accounting and reporting procedures; Ensuring that all school-age children attend school; Observing and enforcing all county attendance policies and state attendance laws.
QUALIFICATIONS
Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license with an administrative endorsement;
Has a minimum of a master's degree; and Meets health and physical requirements.
Completed 8 semester hours in areas such as: counseling and guidance, community and school relations, special education, social case work, or state and federal laws relating to school attendance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates student personnel services regarding attendance matters;
- Supervises attendance staff, attendance officer, secretary, and district homebound teachers
- Works closely with teachers, guidance counselors, and principals regarding students who are absent or tardy too frequently and who have not responded to the corrective efforts made by the building principal;
- Participates in individual or group counseling sessions whenever needed or requested by a member of the administration;
- Contacts the parents/guardians by phone, mail, or home visit;
- Documents outcomes of contacts, visits, and court hearings, and reports to the individual school;
- Is available to school administrators, teachers, students, and parents on an individual basis to explain attendance laws and policies and encourages faithful attendance;
- Serves as liaison between the schools and parents, and community agencies;
- Works closely with guidance counselors in the identification and counseling of potential dropouts;
- Document and maintain records for home school and non-public school students;
- Maintains the system's records of attendance and student accounting, including projection of future enrollments, transfer of students, and implementation and reinforcement of boundaries;
- Attends hearings for tier meetings at schools;
- Responsible for contacting parents and students who have been determined as being truant;
- Works as a liaison between the Wilson County Truancy Court, Truancy Board, and Wilson County Schools;
- Contacts the state when students are ineligible to retain a driver’s license or permit, and for reinstatement of a student’s driver’s license or permit;
- Works with SMS Coordinator to prepare, maintain, and submit monthly reports and EIS attendance and membership data as required by the state;
- Collaborates with school attendance clerks and SIS to monitor attendance, enrollment, withdrawals, and custody of students;
- Communicates with Department of Children Services for at risk students and students in state custody;
- Develops a procedure for approving Out of Zone Requests;
- Monitors and reports on chronic absenteeism for schools and the district; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
