We are searching for a Head of Community Impact to oversee the firm’s Community Impact program, including managing personnel on the Community Impact team, facilitating collaborations with other groups (e.g., office administrators, marketing, professional development, DEI, and attorney recruiting), and the administration of the firm’s philanthropic programs, including pro bono, community service, and the Wilson Sonsini Foundation.
The ideal candidate is out-going, energetic, and passionate about increasing access to justice and promoting community impact- giving back to the community, with a track record of personal community involvement.
Responsibilities:
Part of the firm’s Community Impact Team, reporting to the Pro Bono Partner. Oversees firm community impact team and initiatives (e.g., the Pro Bono Program, the Community Service Program, and the Wilson Sonsini Foundation), in partnership with Pro Bono Partner. The Head of Community Impact will provide leadership and vision, work with the Pro Bono Partner to set standards for community impact policy and initiatives.
Head of Community Impact:
- Internal oral and written communications with the attorneys and staff, including promoting sharing of ideas and resources
- External oral and written communications with the general public, including non-profit agencies and social media
- Researching and evaluating new community impact opportunities
- Managing existing and new community impact partnerships with clients
- Overseeing community impact (pro bono, community service, and Wilson Sonsini Foundation)on the firm’s Intranet, including posting new opportunities, and updating calendar of events
- Managing all community service committee meetings, preparing agenda and meeting materials
- Participating in Pro Bono Committee meetings
- Acting as liaison between Wilson Sonsini Foundation and the Wilson Sonsini Community Impact Program, including evaluating current pro bono and community service nonprofit partners and grantees, preparation and presentation of community service budget to Foundation Board, and ongoing sponsorship requests
- Developing new community impact opportunities with non-profit agencies
- Managing budget for Community Impact
- Overseeing Wilson Sonsini community service events in all offices, including participation and publicity for events, and follow-up event reports, photos, evaluation, and social media
- Managing publications regarding the Wilson Sonsini Community Impact program, including newsletters, and annual report
Wilson Sonsini Foundation duties will include:
- Internal oral and written communications with members, associates, and staff
- Internal oral and written communications with marketing and accounting departments regarding Foundation sponsorships and financial issues
- External oral and written communications with the general public, including non-profit agencies
- Researching, evaluating, and summarizing grant requests, including confirmation of nonprofit applicant’s 501(c)(3) status
- Coordinating all board meetings, preparing agenda and board meeting materials
- Recording and preparing board meeting minutes
- Developing reports and materials for annual Foundation board meetings
- Managing the Foundation’s budget, including monthly financials, periodic reports
- Coordinating with finance team on Foundation annual audit
- Coordinating Foundation sponsorships, including participation in events, advertisements and other sponsorship recognition
- Preparing Secretary of State filings
- Managing publications regarding the Foundation, including annual report
- Administering the California ChangeLawyers FirstGen scholarships, including selecting mentors for 1L scholars and UC Law SF Memorial Endowment scholarships in honor of Don Bradley
- Representing the Foundation at Foundation-sponsored events and other community activities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree desirable but not required
- 10 years of related experience in a law firm or similar professional services environment
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including making presentations
- Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Experience with requesting and preparing reports
- Knowledge of social media
The primary location for this job posting is in Palo Alto, but other locations may be listed. The actual base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to the selected candidate’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, level of education, professional certifications and licenses, and work location. The anticipated pay range for this position is as follows:
San Francisco and Silicon Valley: $208,250 – $281,750 per year
The compensation for this position may include a discretionary year-end merit bonus based on performance. We offer a highly competitive salary and benefits package.
