Wilson Trailer Company has a full-time opening for an Engineering Manager with PE Certification, required or willing to attain PE, for our Grain Product Lines. Position Summary
In cooperation with Sales and Manufacturing, the Engineering Manager:
- Is accountable for the success of the product line team through designing and manufacturing truck trailers and related sub-assemblies and/or other components to customer specifications.
- Ensures product designs are safe, legal, and profitably competitive.
- Manages all engineering activities within their department including design, development, production, and testing.
- Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products or equipment when necessary data are insufficient or confirmation by testing is advisable.
Essential Functions
- Supervise, direct and manage department personnel, processes and product development in the daily operation of one or more product line engineering departments. Lead and develop the product line engineering team.
- Develop and maintain sound, cost-effective, safe, and industry leading designs.
- Work as a member of the product line team to achieve product line goals and annual “must do’s.”
- Responsible for product line design warranty costs and providing assistance to the warranty department.
- Collaborate with Sales to evaluate new design inquiries, price requests, review of specific applications and provide information on the feasibility (structural and manufacturability).
- Support Manufacturing by developing and maintaining easy-to-build designs and provide additional information as needed to facilitate trailer production.
- Assist in creating, maintaining and enforcing conformance to engineering standards. Ensure completeness and accuracy of engineering information. Responsible for the security of the Company’s proprietary product line information.
- Responsible for design safety, safety decals and safety information on trailers and owner’s manuals.
- Assist Company Attorney on matters relating to product liability, safety and patent protection.
- Oversee contract services such as prototype testing and other outside services.
- Stay current on market and industry developments and inform management as appropriate.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors to effectively identify and specify needed materials and purchased components for new and updated designs.
- Aid with the preparation of and monitors annual budget.
