The Senior Controls Engineer will lead large, multi-discipline projects. The role involves overseeing all aspects of DCS systems, including hardware layout, configuration, and graphics design, as well as field instrumentation, commissioning, and startup phases.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Independently manage small to medium-sized single-discipline capital projects pertaining to instrumentation and controls.
- Perform the instrumentation and controls lead role on medium to large capital projects
- Support projects through all phases of execution, from inception to commissioning and startup.
- Lead a small team of engineers and designers, ensuring effective collaboration and project success.
- Contribute to the overall success of project teams by working effectively and directing team efforts on capital projects.
- Develop and promote best practices within Evonik for control system design and implementation.
REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. degreer or higher in a related field.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience working with Emerson DeltaV or Siemens PCS7 systems.
- Fully capable of working as a DCS lead-engineer on a large, multi-discipline project.
- Hands-on experience with all aspects of DCS systems (specifying, hardware layout, configuration, and graphics design).
- Hands-on configuration experience both independently, as well as in a team environment.
- Have a working knowledge of field instrumentation. This includes but is not limited to IO design as it pertains to the field instruments and electrical connections to the automation system.
- Be familiar with remote I/O concepts from either Siemens or Emerson (i.e., CHARMS and/or ET200SP HA).
- Be familiar with various communication protocols which can be used with the Control Systems (i.e., HART, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Modbus TCP).
- Ability to read, understand, and develop instrumentation loop sheets and electrical motor schematics.
- Be familiar with, and be able to understand P&ID drawings.
- Field experience with the commissioning and startup phases of a project.
- Be capable and comfortable going into and performing work in a chemical plant environment.
- Ability to generate a cost estimate as it pertains to process controls. This includes all aspects such as instrument selection/installation, control system selection/configuration, commissioning, and startup.
- Be able to work as part of a project team.
- Have excellent oral & written communication skills.
- Possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license in a relevant field (such as Controls or Electrical). Alternatively, extensive years of experience may be considered in place of the PE requirement.
- Position requires travel: eg. Site visits for project walk-downs, project construction phase, commissioning, and startup.
